The aim of Junior Cycle Geography is to enable students to become Geographically literate.
We have 28 learning outcomes over 3 interconnecting strands
1.Exploring the physical world;
2.Exploring how we interact with the physical world
3. Exploring people, place, and change
Students will approach each of their learning outcomes with critical thinking - keeping in mind the 3 main elements
1.Processes, patterns, systems and scale
2.Geographical skills
3.Sustainability
It has been designed for a minimum of 200 hours timetabled student engagement across the three years of junior cycle.
JC Assessment:
Students will complete two Classroom Based Assessments (CBAs). The first entitled “Geography In the News” will be submitted in 2nd year, the other entitled “My Geography” submitted in 3rd year. Students will also sit a two hour terminal exam in 3rd year as part of their junior cert. This is a common level paper.
