Physical Education

©Brian Cregan Photgraphy -6264.jpgPhysical Education (PE) is one of the main pillars of the Wellbeing subjects in our school. It is a subject where you can take part in and learn about physical activities. You develop capacity to become an informed, skilled, self-directed and reflective performer in physical education and physical activity in junior cycle, senior cycle and in your future life. You will learn about how important keeping fit is for the health of your body and mind and how physical activity can aid your learning in the classroom.

How will I learn?

Learning in PE occurs through a broad and balanced range of activities. You will participate and learn through the following strands:

  • Invasion games such as GAA, Football and Basketball
  • Net Games such as Table Tennis, Badminton and Volleyball
  • Fielding games such as Rounders and Cricket
  • Athletics
  • Outdoor Adventure Activities
  • Aquatics
  • Gymnastics
  • Dance
  • Personal exercise and fitness

To help you learn you will be asked to participate in all classes, have proper clothing and footwear, be curious and ask questions and come to every class with energy and enthusiasm.

Assessment in PE

At Junior Cycle you will be asked to complete two Classroom Based Assessments (CBA’s) one in second year and one in third year. You will also be asked to complete a number of assessment tasks following the completion of a topic. These might be practical or written.
