Junior Certificate

Welcome to Kylemore College's Junior Cycle programme! Our school offers a variety of subjects that cater to the needs and interests of our students. As part of the Junior Cycle, there are mandatory subjects that every student must study, including English, Gaeilge, Maths, SPHE, CSPE, Physical Education, Religion, French, Geography, and History. These subjects provide students with a strong foundation in core skills, such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication.

In addition to the mandatory subjects, students have the opportunity to choose two optional subjects that they are interested in. Our school offers a range of options, including Art, Business, Home Economics, Metalwork, Music, Science, and Woodwork. These subjects are designed to encourage creativity and innovation, and to help students develop practical and technical skills that will benefit them in their future studies and careers.

At Kylemore College, we believe that Classroom Based Assessments (CBAs) are an essential component of the Junior Cycle programme. CBAs allow students to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways, including presentations, projects, and portfolios. These assessments are based on a broad range of skills, such as teamwork, research, and self-reflection, and encourage students to take ownership of their own learning.

Finally, we would like to remind parents that the Junior Cycle is an exciting and challenging time for students, and we are committed to providing a supportive and nurturing learning environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning. We welcome your involvement in your child's education and invite you to attend parent-teacher meetings and school events throughout the year. Thank you for choosing Kylemore College as your child's school, and we look forward to working with you to help your child achieve their full potential.
